The Modern Psychoanalysis & Organizational Life series offers a flexible, practice-oriented set of courses designed for clinicians, coaches, consultants, educators, and organizational leaders who want to deepen their understanding of human dynamics in leadership and organizational settings.

Drawing from modern psychoanalytic theory, systems thinking, and experiential learning, this series explores the emotional life of groups, the unconscious dynamics of leadership, and the challenges of organizational change.

Learners may register for individual courses or complete an entire learning module. A Recognition of Completion is available for each completed module.

All IMPP courses are held via videoconference (ZOOM) for your convenience!

(Note: The Organizational Dynamics, Leadership & Consulting (ODLC) program was retired in 2025 as we shift away from offering non-accredited certificate programs.)

Organized into Three Thematic Modules:

MODULE 1:

FOUNDATIONS OF PSYCHOANALYSIS IN ORGANIZATIONAL LIFE

This module explores the core theoretical foundations of applying psychoanalytic thought to leadership, consulting, and group dynamics. It is recommended for those new to psychoanalytic approaches or looking to strengthen their conceptual base.

Courses:

  • Psychoanalytic Approaches to Organizations, Leadership, and Organizational Consultancy
    Overview of how unconscious dynamics, including resistance, transference, and containment, shape organizational life.
  • Leadership and Crisis: Modern Psychoanalytic Perspectives and Approaches
    Investigates how leaders manage anxiety, conflict, and identity in high-stakes or turbulent environments.
  • Clinical Perspectives on Freud’s Social Thought and Activism
    Engages Freud’s lesser-known writings on society, power, politics, and group life as a framework for contemporary consulting.

MODULE 2:

SKILLS FOR CONSULTANTS, COACHES, and GROUP FACILITATORS

This module focuses on the tools and techniques used in psychoanalytic consulting, coaching, and group leadership, emphasizing relational skills, group process, and emotional containment.

Courses:

  • Consulting and Facilitation Skills – Part I
    Practical methods for facilitating reflective dialogue, managing group dynamics, and navigating resistance in teams or organizations.
  • Consulting and Facilitation Skills – Part II (Advanced)
    Advanced practice in leadership coaching, group consultancy, and facilitation through a modern analytic lens.
  • The Coaching Relationship: Modern Psychoanalytic Perspectives and Practice
    Explores the dynamics of the coaching alliance, authority and dependency, and the emotional dimensions of performance and leadership development.
  • Modern Psychoanalytic Coaching for Executive and Team Leadership
    Applies modern psychoanalytic principles to executive coaching, including team dynamics, organizational resistances, and role analysis.

MODULE 3:

REFLECTIVE AND CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES IN ORGANIZATIONAL LIFE

This module brings a wider lens to psychoanalytic organizational work, offering historical, cultural, and critical perspectives that encourage ethical and socially engaged practice.

Courses:

  • Ego Psychology and Object Relations (Organizational Applications) Examines the development of internal object worlds and their influence on group functioning, leadership behavior, and organizational culture.
  • The Evolution of Psychoanalytic Technique (Freud to Spotnitz) Traces the historical arc of technique development and its implications for organizational consultants and change agents.
  • Freud’s Cases and Technical Papers Focuses on Freud’s major case studies and papers on psychoanalytic technique with particular attention on comparing Freud’s practices with Modern Psychoanalytic approaches.

Priscilla Bright, PhD, NCPsyA

Priscilla Bright, PhD, NCPsyAPriscilla Bright, PhD, NCPsyA, received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1983. Dr. Bright was certified in Psychoanalysis in 1984. She is a senior Supervising and Training Analyst at IMPP. Dr. Bright taught Maturation and Development and served on the Board of Directors at PSP for many years. Dr. Bright has been a psychologist and psychoanalyst in Private Practice for 35 years. She focuses on relationships, specifically transference and objective/subjective countertransference as well as the way these are reenacted in supervision. Since 2001, in addition to her work with patients, Dr. Bright has worked with individuals in more than 30 businesses as an Executive Development Consultant where she uses the principals of Psychoanalysis. Wally Fletcher, D.Min, NCPsyA

Wally Fletcher, D Min, NCPsyA , has extensive training and experience as a therapist, organizational consultant, educator and non-profit executive. He is a Certified Psychoanalyst and Clinical Supervisor in the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis and a board commissioner and ACPE Psychotherapist of The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. He teaches graduate (MS) courses in Business and Organizational Leadership at Neumann University, and courses in the history and evolution of psychoanalysis at the Certificate in Modern Psychoanalysis. He serves on the Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health’s Faith and Spiritual Affairs Advisory Board. He is also on the mental health faculty of CREDO, an intensive wellness program for clergy administered by the Pension Boards of the Episcopal and Presbyterian Churches US. David Rothauser, MA, MS, NCPsyA, PCCDavid Rothauser, MA, MS, NCPsyA, PCC

David is a psychoanalyst, educator, executive coach and coach supervisor who has worked in leadership and human development for over 20 years. He maintains a psychoanalytic practice, facilitates ongoing supervision groups for coaches and consultants, and engages senior leaders and their teams in reflective practice. David has coached in a range of industries, including entertainment, PE- and VC-backed tech startups, data analytics, the space industry, cyber security, real estate, healthcare, and education. David trained in psychoanalysis at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies, coaching supervision at Oxford Brookes University, executive coaching at Columbia University, and psychodynamic group leadership at the Center for Group Studies.
