Exploring New Horizons of Diversity and Inclusion
The Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis embarked on a strategic plan four years ago amidst financial turmoil, focusing on reaffirming its educational, clinical, and social mission while stabilizing financially. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented unforeseen challenges, prompting adaptive responses that led to transformative outcomes. These responses included expanding online education, launching new programs like Organizational Dynamics, Leadership, and Consulting, and prioritizing telehealth for underserved communities.
Addressing systemic racism and promoting diversity and inclusion became central, culminating in initiatives like the Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and participation in the Holmes Commission on Racial Equality in Psychoanalysis. Strengthening the Board, faculty, and staff played a pivotal role in our previous strategic plan.
Looking ahead, the new strategic plan aims to diversify faculty and leadership, enhance branding and marketing efforts, expand program offerings, improve stakeholder engagement, and ensure financial sustainability. Collaborative leadership development emerges as a cornerstone for future success. With a renewed focus on mission, fiscal stability, and structural strength, the organization stands poised for continued growth and impact, acknowledging there’s always more work to be done and expressing gratitude to all involved stakeholders for their commitment.
